KUNSTVEREIN LINGEN (ART ASSOCIATION LINGEN)
◤ART ASSOCIATION LINGEN, SINCE 1983
The Art Association Lingen was founded in 1983. Since 1978, as a free initiative of artists and interested citizens of the city of Lingen, the Lingen School of Painting preceded, whose first rooms were in the former Hüttenplatzschule. From this initiative, the painting and creative school association Lingen was founded in 1983. However, in order to be able to carry out art exhibitions under its sponsorship, the latter was renamed the Kunstverein Lingen. From 1983 to 1997, works by regional, national and international artists were shown in the foyer of the theater at Wilhelmshöhe. The painting and creative school moved into rooms in the professors’ house at the Universitätsplatz in 1986. Since 1997, it has resided as an art school in Lingen in the former university building converted by the city of Lingen. The Kunstverein Lingen was the initiator of the federation of the Lower Saxonian federation of the art schools, founded in 1984, and deledated its chairman for eight years.
At the same time the Kunsthalle, initiated and financed by the Kunstverein, was put into operation in Hall IV. From 1995 to 2003 the Kunstverein Lingen Kunsthalle was the seat of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Kunstvereine (AdKV). The Lingener Kunstverein is a non-profit organization for the education and promotion of contemporary art, which is supported by members.
◤ART ASSOCIATION LINGEN, RESPONSIBLE BODY OF THE ART HALL
The Kunstverein Lingen is the bearer of the Lingen Kunsthalle which opened on 12 October 1997. It is part of the Industrial Building Hall IV on the site of the former Reichs- later Bundesbahn-Reparation works.
The visual art of the present, which deals with questions of the respective times in which it emerges – the claim of the program of the Kunstverein Lingen Kunsthalle to this day. Following this, the mediation of regional, national and international contemporary art is the educational task of the Kunsthalle Lingen. As a center for contemporary art, individual and group exhibitions of the Kunsthalle reflect the local, national and worldwide art scene. The inclusion of cultural producers from various fields promotes interdisciplinary exchange and establishes the Lingen Kunsthalle as an open forum for discussions of different approaches. Exhibitions, artist interviews, concerts, culinary events, art excursions, visitor information, publications, guided tours and a wide range of creative orientated art education offer the broadest possible audience an opportunity to deepen the content of the presented works.
The Kunsthalle maintains, manages and presents part of the legacy of the artist Harry Kramer, born in Lingen in 1925, who took part in the documenta III in Kassel in 1964 and died there in 1997.
